Balneario

This is definitely Tarifa’s most spectacular spot. The area between rocks and the spit of land is only 250m wide – if you have the cojones, you can try your best tricks here. Levante is dead offshore so the water’s super-smooth, and with swell you can carve to your heart’s content. A trip to 'Balneario' is particularly rewarding on the tail-end of a Levante when it’s no longer blowing up by the dunes. It gets tight with any more than three people on the water though, so particularly windsurfers tend to cross the spit to little 'Playa Chica’ (but only outside of summer when there are no swimmers around). Be careful at the harbour-mouth, as it takes the Tangiers ferry about a kilometre to come to a halt.
