Kalafati is the most reliably windy bay on Mykonos. Beginners can usually sail while the Meltemi lies in through the morning, before it awakes around midday. The further east you go, the stronger the wind as it accelerates through a valley. The flag in the middle of the bay isn’t a gybe mark, but a warning of the bay’s only rock awaiting errant fins. A couple of rubber mats are also laid out in the launch area over some rocky ledges. If freeride in the bay feels a bit tame, there's swell to take on out in the strait by the island of Tragonisi.
