The industrial backdrop isn’t too pretty, but that doesn’t affect Mukran’s quality. In easterly wind, this is Rügen’s best wave spot – its exposed location in the Baltic comes into play when windswell builds after it blows hard for more than a day. The wind goes cross-shore on the rare occasion it backs north-easterly. There’s a meaty shorebreak despite the sandbar break 400m offshore. The stony launch has its risks too.
